A couple of weeks ago, my friend renovated the kitchen cabinets. I helped him and did the research for this task and realized that finding the right cabinet size is not an easy task.

I thought about sharing what I have learned and decided to write a helpful post about it.

What are the top kitchen cabinet sizes? The standard size for the base cabinet is H:34” x W:12” x D:25”, for the wall cabinet is H:18” x W:18” x D:24”,  and the corner cabinet is H:35” x W:35” x D:24”. However, you can customize the cabinets according to your kitchen size.

Wall Cabinets

What is the standard size of a wall kitchen cabinet? The standard height of wall cabinets is 30 to 36 inches. The standard width range is 30 inches and the standard depth is 24 inches. 

Wall kitchen cabinets ideally are hung 54″ above the floor, 18″ above the counter, and 24″ above the stove. It is recommended that if your kitchen is accessible, then the cabinet can be hung at 15″ above countertops. 

Wall kitchen cabinets are very diverse in design and are the central point of your kitchen. The choice of wall cabinet depends on your design preference and ceiling height. They can be attached directly to the wall with screws. 

For storing lightweight and small food and kitchen items.  Attached to the wall studs with screws and less durable.

When you are choosing wall cabinet size for your kitchen, consider the following points:

  1. In an 8-foot ceiling kitchen, ideally, the cabinets do not touch the ceiling, 30″ wall cabinets should be installed.
  2. If you would like to use crown moulding in your 8-foot kitchen, then you should install a 36″ wall cabinet.
  3. If your kitchen has a 9-foot ceiling, then you should install the largest standard 42″ wall cabinet.

Corner Cabinets

Above mentioned cabinet sizes cover the cabinets and drawer packs. There are also other cabinets to consider like corner cabinets. They come in two different types. The first runs into the corner and has a black section and one door.

These cabinets are referred to as blind spots as you can’t see inside leaving a dark angled corner for forgotten pan lids and pasta. Corner cabinet size depends on the size of the door opening.

This may depend on whether you have an internal mechanism installed in a certain amount of space and door opening size.

The second type is L-Shaped which has a two-door to one another that will open joined or one door open in front of another.

Dimensions: 910mm x 910mm wide, Height and width will be the same as Base kitchen cabinets.

How do I measure for replacement kitchen cabinets?

If you want to change your kitchen cabinets, you will need to measure your kitchen precisely for them to fit into space. Anyone can take measurements with the following guidelines.

Take a steel measuring tape, Graph paper, and Pencil then make a floor plan and start measuring. From left to right measure the full length of each wall, including windows and doorways. 

Which comes first cabinets or the hard flooring?

If you are replacing both floor and cabinets at the same time. If by some financial issues you are doing it at a separate time.

Also keep this in mind if your cabinets are completed before flooring, due to cabinet height issues it may restrict your flooring options. The ideal seems to be if one has time then discuss the whole process with flooring and cabinet contractors.

I have seen many customers who don’t hold fast to this, As a result, they could neither do durable hardwood nor tile.
